Sydney Pain Centres was founded by Tony Merritt and Tillman Boesel in 2015. Tony and Tillman are two of Australia’s most experienced pain management clinicians. Tony is a Clinical Psychologist and Tillman is a Consultant Pain Management Specialist with outstanding skills in interventional pain management. Between them they have almost fifty years’ experience in the field.
Tony and Tillman had worked together for several years prior to 2015 and had during that time been joined by a small group of like-minded people. As a team they were focused in providing high quality, accessible care for people in pain. There were also all united in idea that high quality care meant having a respectful and engaged relationship with their patients, referrers, and colleagues.
They decided to formalise things and within a few years the team had grown rapidly, and they had opened several practices. The growth has continued and now Sydney Pain Centres has one of the largest and most diverse pain management teams working in private practice in Australia. Their success is founded on providing evidence-based care, whether that is interventional pain management or group-based pain programmes, delivered by multidisciplinary teams, and supported an outstanding administrative team.
From the beginning Tony and Tillman set out to build a strong, engaged culture. Everyone is of equal value at Sydney Pain Centres, no matter whether they are a receptionist or the director of clinical services. We treat our team as adults and provide them the with scope and sport to do their work in the way they feel is most effective. We encourage everyone to look after their wellbeing, be that taking regular breaks during the day, taking annual leave, or giving themselves space and time when they are tired. We pay people well to ensure we get the best people, and we make sure that every feels their work is meaningful. Oh, and we have great Xmas parties!
