Tony Merritt

Tony Merritt is the CEO and co-founder of Sydney Pain Centres. Tony has grown Sydney Pain Centres from a small private practice operating one day a week, to a large, multicentre healthcare business that provides over twelve thousand consultations a year.

Tony is an alumnus of INSEAD business school in France, the SAID Business School at Oxford University, and AGSM Sydney, and is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Tony has significant board and health service delivery experience. He was a board member of Central Sydney GP Network and was closely involved in the organisation’s transition to being a Medicare Local, and subsequently to Central and Eastern Sydney Primary Health Network, where he was allied health board chair. He was involved in the PHN’s clinical steering committee, chaired the PHN’s constitution committee, and was involved in many consultation and stakeholder meetings over an eight-year period. Tony has also been a member of the National Executive of the Australian Psychological Society College of Clinical Psychologists, and has served on a number of not-for-profit boards.

Tony has over twenty years’ experience as a clinical psychologist specialising in chronic pain and personality disorders. He is a lecturer in the Masters of Clinical Psychology programmes at UNSW, WSU and ACU, where he teaches on chronic pain, and personality disorders.
